Spotted! Shirley Chen

Mythical stories told in the work of Shirley Chen aka Setsuri, an emerging Digital Animation graduate from the The School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University.

Her graduation project revolves around the fleeting length of mortal lives, and blurring the boundaries between us mortals and the supernatural. “Heavily steeped in Chinese mythology, I am hoping to create a world which is both familiar yet mysterious, like a broken dream from the past. As a traditionalist at heart and heavily inspired by antiquarian aesthetics of the Chinese culture, my paintings are conceived by marrying traditional ink painting techniques with digital painting. I am particularly interested in the overall atmosphere of the paintings and the emotions they evoke with the audience.”

Shirley also has a healthy fascination with drawing pretty boys for C.D.S. studios.
