Spotted! JR Chan

Designer JR Chan graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Fashion Design. Her debut (graduation) collection in the 2007 Singapore Fashion Festival won her The Singapore Young Designer Award and a place as a finalist in Topshop/TOPMAN Best graduate award.

Her much sought‐after second collection was showcased shortly after in Singapore Young Designer Contest 2007 to much accolade and brought her to the attention of multi‐label concept store Hide & Seek’s owner and designer Keith Png. Thereafter, JR joined Hide & Seek, apprenticing under Keith Png. In 2010, JR launched her first official menswear label‐Cloak & Dagger, a menswear label of Hide & Seek.

JASON is  a new menswear and androgynous label by JR. “The debut collection is mainly inspired by Suprematism, referring to the Russian abstract art movement developed by Kazimir Malevich, which is characterized by simple geometric shapes and associated with ideas of spiritual purity,” she explains. “The collection is a mix of  peculiarity for details with reference taken into projects of  Zaha Hadid‐renowned architecture and Suprematism. A series of Men‐in‐skirts look can also be found in the collection, influenced by my insistence on the breaking of stereotypes, stereotypes of how men and women should dress.”

JASON is stocked at Hide & Seek, Blackmarket No1, and Blackmarket No2 and EGG3.
