Maki Squarepatch: hello eco!

hello eco! store

Tucked away in the quaint Emerald Hill neighbourhood, just minutes away from the mass-produced madness that is Orchard Road is Maki Squarepatch: hello eco!, a cosy and refreshing store cum gallery selling one of a kind clothing, toys and accessories.

The store is the brainchild of Enqi and Xin, the duo behind Maki Squarepatch. Since starting the label in 2006, the pair have rapidly earned their fair share of fans from around the world with their playful and eco-friendly creations.

With a name like hello eco!, it’s unsurprising that environmental conservation is the driving force behind Maki Squarepatch. Enqi and Xin often take secondhand or as they like to call it, pre-loved, materials to re-construct them into tote bags, plush toys and clothing featuring cartoon-like characters and motifs, each one different from the other.

Their lively and quirky style translates well as a store. It almost felt like we wandered into a child’s playroom surrounded by creatures of his own imagination. With its glass frontage, natural lighting and stark white walls — with the exception of a rainbow mural that covered one wall — the colours of their products simply popped.

Aside from their own designs, Maki Squarepatch: hello eco! also sells furnishings by Little Red Dots, vintage clothing and artwork from other eco-friendly collectors and artists. Do drop by, the designers are more than happy to have visitors for some tea and chit chat.
