The Proletariat Poetry Factory

Give them a word to inspire the poem, leave a name behind, collect the typewritten poem and pay any amount for it. A constant audio feed by The Board of Supreme Controllers via headphones aims to maximise productivity, by maintaining servility of poet labourers and complete mental submission to the system. Now, The Proletariat Poetry Factory is aiming to manufacture and sell the largest volume of spontaneous poems in one sitting to date, as they set their sights on industrial performances of an even bigger scale. 5 Jul, 2-7pm at The Substation Gallery.

My Last Adornment

Renowned jewelry designer Shing, of cult label argentum, creates her second installation My Last Adornment, using jewelry to reflect on themes of vanity and mortality. Viewers are invited to step into the installation and put on their last adornment inside a photo booth and contemplate the transience of life. This act becomes less about vanity and more a reminder of their mortality and how precious lives are. 1-15 Jun, 11am to 8pm daily at The Substation Gallery

Furniture Design Showcase

Be inspired by selected pieces of furniture from the FDA 2008 Students and Young Designers Category finalists and discover how they interpreted the theme ‘TENSION’. Also on display are the winning designs of the 4th FL!P Challenge held late last year, where student designers were given two types of wood to work with - American red oak and yellow poplar. 29 May-14 Jun, 10am to 9pm daily at The National Museum of Singapore - The Concourse, Level 1. Rock The Sub

Rock The Sub! presents a total of 12 fantastic Singapore bands and featuring 8 excellent bands who have appeared on the Rock Your World acoustic stage. Furniture Design Forum 2008

The 6th Furniture Design Forum (FDF) will see a panel of distinguished international design gurus as well as local design personalities gathered to share their design experiences and latest trends. Kaylene Tan

Writer-Performer Kaylene Tan presents a reading of her current work-in-progress - an intimate audio triptych inspired by the Singapore River, Peninsula Plaza and the Armenian Church. Traversing history and memory, myth and biography, the domestic and the poetic, this text emerges from nine months of archival research, listening, walking and lingering. The reading will be followed by a question and answer session. 9 May, 7pm at the Playden (Arts House).

Body Art

A performance beyond the walls of the museum, bringing body art into the city. Renowned celebrity Japanese artist Ai Yamaguchi, local artists ZERO and Joanne Lim present their latest creations using bodies as canvases. Choking The Chicken

Aging Youth Productions’ first installment of Choking The Chicken will feature musical acts that bravely tread the fine line that divides different genres. Expect a clash of electronic, post rock and ambient in an evening that will entice the audience to redefine their genre pigeon holes. The Arts House will be launching Stephen Black’s photography book at the Arts House on 18 April, with the exhibition starting on the 15th and ending on the 27th.

Will You Be | So Close

Through a series of paintings, drawings and a fridge, nine emerging artists from Singapore’s local arts institutions will explore the human trajectory of closeness in their maiden fine arts exhibition, “Will You Be | So Close“. Curated by two students from NTU’s School of Art, Design and Media (ADM), the exhibit’s theme came to co-organiser, Annette Heitmann, when she lost someone metaphorically and began a search for something close to her. 27 Mar-14 Apr, Tue to Sun: 1130AM to 7PM at Forth Art Gallery.

30th February

Renowned for his juxtaposed black and white surrealistic images, photographer Chow Chee Yong will be launching his first photographic book titled 30th February, a collection of his past photographic works. A JCCI art scholarship recipient, he has been the first Singaporean whose works were acquired by Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in 2001, a collective of photographic prints which includes artworks by renowned photographers Nobuyashi Araki, Helmut Newton and Ansel Adams. 19 Feb-15 Mar at Kay Ngee Tan Architecs Gallery, 16-17 Duxton Hill.

A Little Beijing

LINZ is a graphic designer who majored in publication. Yet, in her 5 years of work, she has not produced any publications of her own. Storyboard ‘08

Storyboard’08 is Singapore’s very own film festival that engages and involves film participation at several levels. Engaged on several platforms, Storyboard ‘08 sees the participation of big corporations (Canon, Golden Village and Media Development Authority), renowned and upstart directors (Jack Neo, Eric Khoo, Boo Junfeng, Seah Wee Thye), indie film movements (Sinema, Singaplural and Singapore Film Society), most secondary schools and tertiary institutions, along with the mass public through , an outdoor movie screening. 16-23 Feb at Scape, Youth Park.
