Ambivalence by Gabe Chen

Opening 9 July, The Glasgow School of Art Singapore will return with a showcase of this year’s crop of graduates from the disciplines of BA (Hons) Communication Design and BA (Hons) Interior Design.

Culturepush picked out a selection of their graduate students work, ahead of the opening of the show.

Meet our first graduate, Gabe Chen. We actually featured Gabe’s work in 2011, when pretty much every photograph he took was about fashion.

The featured project titled “Ambivalence” is a study and interpretation of how renowned contemporary renaissance painters, such as Caravaggio, Botticelli, Giorgione, and Vermeer, portrayed the many subjects and objects within their painting. “Using fashion photography as a medium to explore how every element interacts, complimentary and contradictory natures are intertwined to create an intentional visual paradox, challenging viewers to find the subversive message of each piece.”

Discover more amazing work at the GSA Degree show which runs until July 15 at DECK.
