“The banner is cropped from an oil painting I made in 2013 called ‘We Keep Going’. The phrase was something my girlfriend said to me a while back, which intrigued me. At that point in time, I happened to have a rather long canvas and decided to make a piece that strongly expressed movement, both in a visual and metaphorical sense. Visually one sees the view from looking out of a car as it speeds along the express way, leaving the world around it a huge blur. This thus attempts to reflect the speed of time, the constant arrival of uncertain futures, and the futile attempts to cling onto memories of the past; a phenomenon I feel has grabbed hold of many of us Singaporeans and our society. Yet the title suggests optimism; facing doubt and fear of what’s ahead together may only make things a little better, but it is good enough.” – Yeo Tze Yang.
