Spotted! Ong Lijie

Ong Lijie, only just majored in Printmakng from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and is now pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts at LASALLE College of the Arts. Lijie has a portfolio made of some weird stuff. Even in her own statement she uses the words abject, hysteria, consciousness, desires and their interdiction – so be warned!

“This triptych of etching prints features narratives brimming with metaphors, weaving morbidly lush landscapes and anatomized bodies in my journey to translate a disoriented reality of vulnerability and self-awareness. The works act as a visual channel of reflecting on my concerns of entering and discovering womanhood; the cumulative experiences of juvenile prepubescent self to the teenage adolescent and finally the present stage of adulthood.”

“Various drawing elements and metaphors are incorporated hazily on a conscious action with an unconscious choice, almost like a form of automatic drawing to reason my inner hysteria.”
