Wilfred Weegee is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Imaging & Photography at the School of Art, Design and Media at the Nanyang Technological University. He lived and grew up in a small seaside fishing village in Pengerang, southern Malaysia, before coming to Singapore to pursue his education six years ago. A fan of classical painting, Wilfred utilises the photographic medium as a painting tool to convey his ideas, often presenting his vision and criticism through dream-like imagery.
“Not surprisingly, fish and other sea creatures often take centre stage in my work. My works also draw on childhood memories and current issues. With Pengerang currently undergoing serious environmental destruction due to the construction of a refinery, my works seek to draw attention to and comment on the ongoing happenings in my native hometown.”
Wilfred was recently awarded the Noise Singapore Award: Photography for Noise Singapore 2013. Check out his works at the Noise Singapore 2013 Festival Showcase which opens today and runs till 14 August at B4 ION Station (Event Hall), ION Orchard.
