Named as one of agIdeas New Stars, Joseph Louis Tan is an award-winning industrial designer based in Singapore. He translates creative and innovative ideas into tangible reality through designing captivating, meaningful and user-centred solutions in the forms of products, furniture and visuals. As a Golden Jubilee Scholar and a Research Link Grant recipient, Joseph graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Industrial Design with Honours, as well as a Diploma in Industrial Design with Merit from Nanyang Polytechnic prior. Joseph is currently a Junior Product Designer at Barrows, a global retail marketing specialist.

Inspired by ring flash photography and its lighting system used, RingLite (Image 1) is a compact and portable lighting device designed for in-built webcam laptop that helps users to light up their underexposed and unflattering video-recordings. RingLite won 1st Place Winner for the Switched On Design Competition 2012 organised by Brightgreen Australia.
inducTOUCH (Image 2) is a portable induction cooker that celebrates an interactive cooking experience through the usage of human hand gestures to operate the induction cooker. inducTOUCH finished as the Runner-Up for the Electrolux Design Lab Australia 2011.
SlideLid (Image 3) is a new, simple and easy to use senior friendly closure that does not compromise its child-resistance factor, in which users access their pills in one easy simultaneous combination of a ‘push down’ and a ‘slide across’ motion. SlideLid won 1st Place Winner for the Cormack Innovation Awards 2010 organised by Cormack Packaging.
Inspired by traditional Japanese wood joinery and modern cutting technology capabilities, MEW (Image 4) is a simple, versatile and interactive modular coffee table that can be rearranged to suit different individuals needs with its three smaller separate tables. MEW was awarded as the Finalist for both the Vivid – Vibrant Visions In Design Competition 2011 and the EDGE design competition 2012, as well as having exhibited at Furnitex 2011.
