Over the weekend I spotted a crowdfunding project for theatre on Facebook, and I got all nosey. A flip through the website revealed a collab between Studio Thirteen and Pinball Collective to produce their first staged production -Bedok Reservoir- with a little help from you and me.
I hooked up with Wesley Leon Aroozoo – the writer of the play – threw a few questions at him, and here’s what I got back …
“The play is inspired by the consecutive suicides at Bedok Reservoir. The story revolves around three divers in search for a mother and son in the reservoir. Crowd-funding for theatre is something unheard of in Singapore and we are hoping through this, more projects can be realised through crowd funding. So far the response has been fair, and we are going all out in making this event a reality. In a way, the public can have a hand in creating Art and making Art possible in Singapore.”
Wesley is an adjunct lecturer at LASALLE, a member of Studio Thirteen, and a freelance writer for ‘Random Island’, a new series from the makers of ‘The Noose’. He is also reading his Master of Fine Arts at NYU Tisch Asia.
