Pop-Up Art Party: In Chiobu We Trust

Social media and the Internet have given rise to an empowered digital generation of female youths who openly share their personal lives with an online audience of friends and strangers alike. These youths use the increasingly accessible crafts of photography, video and writing to document their lives and social circles and to explore and express their feelings, thoughts and emotions.

“Constant practise has led to an admirable level of artistic sophistication, craft and conceptual thought in their works, calling to mind artists like Juergen Teller, Nan Goldin, Ryan McGinley, Larry Clark and Wolfgang Tillmans. Young Singaporean females expressing their points of view and defining themselves & their generation through art: We call this THE CHIOBU MOVEMENT.”

The party/exhibition is organized by the supercrew at SUPER and  introduces photo, video and written works by a new digital generation of young female artists ranging from 19 to 25 years old; Alvelyn Alko, Holly Grabarek (MTV VJ), Tiffany Tan, Priscilla Ang Geck Geck, Marilyn Goh Yun Jin, Samantha Eve, Eunice C. Arnaud,  Tan Min Yi, and Anmari Van Nieuwenhove.

Singapore’s first-ever secret pop-up Art Party will be held on 31 August at 8:30 PM, and the location will be revealed on Facebook and Twitter. The party will be supported with a catalogue featuring selected works, writings and analysis by Khai Hori (Senior Curator at SAM), Joleen Loh (Curator) and Amanda Lee (Writer).

The exhibition runs from 31st August till 9th September, daily between 11:00am and 7:00pm. Free workshops will be held on 1 and 8 September at 3 PM.
