Pang + Kanako are a collaborative pair who currently attend the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts as undergraduates. Since 2010, they have worked together and form two halves to a whole.
Calvin Pang concerns himself more with concept while Kanako Furukawa focuses on the technicalities. Their exhibition Departing the Departed fills up the gallery space, quite literally, with hand-created, clay-sculpted flowers. The fragility and inevitable decay of the ceramic flowers over the course of the exhibition reflects their concept of morality as an impermanent state. This transience of life should be accepted, according to Pang + Kanako, in order to truly value it.
Departing the Departed 旅立ちby pang + kanako runs from 20 to 29 July, 12pm-9pm at The Substation Gallery.
