Spotted! Baktiar Zainol

“For as long as I can remember I have suffered from a deep feeling of anxiety which I have tried to express in my art. Without anxiety and illness I should have been like a ship without a rudder.” – Edvard Munch (1863-1944).

Baktiar holds a BA in Fine Arts from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, majoring in Painting, and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Fine Arts at LASALLE, College of the Arts.

Baktiar’s work is inclined more towards the autobiographical, as he translates and expresses his battle with a personal illness, and its relationship with the collective unconscious through the use of mythical allegories combined with wordplay and punk subculture.

“In an attempt to distance away and evolve from the inherent therapeutic advantages of my usual art making process, I started to explore an unfamiliar new medium -fantastical animations- and I transform my poetry into songs as their soundtrack accompaniment. With this, I hope to connect with the audience through the allegorical content, sadness in melodies and their relationship with the collective unconscious.”

The featured painted wooden standees -Intravenous Projections- will be on view at  EARBLEEDWAXPOPFUZZKILL with Stellarium, where Baktiar will also be showing some of his short animations as accompanying visuals for the band’s music. Watch this space for more information about this event.
