Spotted! The Moe Chairs

I came across the Moe Chair series at a Bistro/Bar on Winstedt Road, and I was immediately enamored. The chairs are designed by Bureau, and design aficionados and collectors who are well into their thirties may find the forms familiar. It’s no wonder, since the Moe Chair series are based on a chair originally used in classrooms throughout Singapore before the plastic moulded chairs became a cheaper alternative.

The designers at Bureau augmented the original form of the chairs by one unique attribute, resulting in a 6-piece collection that comes in the shape of a highback, a twin seater, a barstool, an ottoman and a rocker. The wooden seat panels and backrests are made from white cedar and the frames are hand finished in galvanized one-inch steel pipes and powder coated.

Bureau are a group of schoolfriends since their days at Temasek Polytechnic. The gang previously worked under the moniker GraphicTaskforce. In 2009 they started their design practice, Bureau.
