Spotted! Cherin & Clarence Tan aka LAARK

Stylist: Darren Lee, Uniform. Photographer: Big Bird.

December marks the launch of LAARK, an online boutique that specializes in light layers for an urban wardrobe for women.

Founders are the “Black Collared” Tan siblings – Cherin, an award-winning interior designer, and her Quantity Surveyor consultant brother Clarence. They believe in simple, honest fashion, and together the duo creates a style aesthetic that is best described as unity through contrast– all at once masculine and feminine, soft and hard, relaxed and edgy.

Their armor includes sharp tailored pants in both drop-crotch and cropped wide legged styles, voluminous sculpted drape dresses and a structured kimono shawl in polka dot print, emphasizng the hard angular forms in the collection.

“In our debut collection, we unveil a dialogue of shadows and light in forty urban looks presented in a monochrome palette with splashes of navy, ivory and olive,” Cherin explains. “The LAARK style aesthetic is best described as unity through contrast– all at once masculine and feminine, soft and hard, relaxed and edgy.  Softness of the collection is evident in the selection of sheer fabrics, soft cotton jersey, clean lines and simple silhouettes. Contrast in the softness lies in masculine pieces such as boyfriend shirts in both cropped and oversized dress lengths, and oversized cardigans.”

LAARK will also be stocked at the local fashion incubator Front Row
