The Kartell Louis Ghost Chair by Zheng Meisi

In line with Space Furniture‘s philosophy of nurturing the future generation of designers, a student design competition, co-organised with Kartell Italy, was implemented to discover fresh local talent. The design task was to conceptualise an original graphic motif of  The Merlion, for the purpose of transferring it onto the back of an equally iconic design – the Louis Ghost chair designed by Philippe Starck.

The winning design, named the Kartell Louis Ghost Chair, combines a burst of colours with clean geometrical shapes and lines, and is the creation of  25-year-old Zheng Meisi, a second-year design communication student from LaSalle College of the Arts.

“Singapore is a multicultural society with different races living harmoniously. Foreigners are welcomed with open arms and by sharing, more collaborative opportunities are made possible resulting in interesting outcomes. The choice to use many colours symbolises the creative energy and joy of the people living hand in hand. Clean geometrical shapes and line details within show the cleanliness and order of Singapore. The graphic motif was produced on Illustrator software to signify the technology of this era.” — Zheng Meisi.

A total of 50 pieces of the limited edition Kartell Louis Ghost Chair will be produced and sold exclusively at Space Asia Hub.
