Singapore The annual Girl DJ Bootcamp is back for the fourth time with a new identity, a bigger line up and a multi-faceted programme presented by Heineken and powered by Lenovo. The new direction in programming will cover not just DJ-ing, but also
production and performance in response to changes in the electronic music landscape.
A total of 10 lucky girls will be handpicked to join the all-new FFF Girl DJ Bootcamp in October 2011. Zouk will once again be the nest for the girls to incubate under the wings of founders Debbie Chia (Midnight Shift, RBMA), Cherry Chan (Syndicate, RBMA, Heineken Sound Council Member) and Natalie Tan (aka Natalie Pixiedub) – all mainstays of Singapore electronic music, with more than a decade of experience between them in all facets of the industry.
The lecture lineup will feature electronic music luminaries from the Singapore scene, including Drum n’ Bass Godfather Kiat, indie darling Ginette Chittick (Beat!, Heineken Sound Council Member), DMC Champion Ko Flow, saxophonist/DJ Kaye and his funk soul partner Dean (Cosa Nostra) as well as production whiz Jason Tan (Eastward Audio), all of whom will be covering topics from the different styles of DJ-ing to the use of electronic gadgets, to the art of producing beats.
Over a series of four Saturdays, Bootcamp participants will attend lectures and demonstrations before taking part in a comprehensive practical session where each girl will spend one-on-one time with a mentor to have hands-on practice with actual DJ equipment – turntables, CDJs, mixers, etc. Optional masterclasses in turntablism, production and digital mixing will also be available for girls who would like a more in-depth look at each facet of DJ-ing.
Courtesy of PC partner Lenovo, participants will be loaned a Lenovo laptop at the start of the course that will be installed with trial versions of the software being taught during the Bootcamp. This will allow the aspiring DJs to experiment and practice on their own time,
instead of being limited by the hours of the Bootcamp.
After the warm reception received for guest lecturer TOKiMONSTA (USA) last year, this year’s Bootcamp will have the French techno powerhouse Jennifer Cardini from the seminal label Kompakt as a guest lecturer.
To top it all off, each participant will also be given a slot in a very special graduation bash that will be held on Thursday 27 October in Zouk’s Wine Bar.
Call for entries will begin tomorrow, with the closing date for entries on 18 September. Results will be announced on Saturday 24 September, and participation is subject to a S$400 entry fee. Entry forms and more details are available from the facebook page.
