8TH SINGAPORE SHORTCUTS

Following a nationwide call for entries, over 100 short films were submitted, with 19 shortlisted to be screened at the 8th Singapore Short Cuts. Held over two weekends on 6 & 7 August and 13 & 14 August at the National Museum of Singapore, the programme will feature a wide variety of homegrown short films that range from documentaries, to animation and experimental work, to give the audience an overview of the vibrant short film culture in Singapore. All screenings will be followed by post-screening discussions with the filmmakers. Among the films that will be screened include shorts by local veteran film luminaries such as Tan Pin Pin‘s The Impossibility of Knowing, which premiered at the Singapore Biennale this year and was the only Singapore film at the DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival. The showcase will also screen Eva Tang‘s award winning Solitary Moon and Anthony Chen‘s latest short film, Lighthouse. Joining the line-up will be shorts by Singaporean filmmakers who have chosen to create their shorts overseas, like Thin Air by Kirsten Tan and The Hole by Tan Shi Jie. There will also be animated shorts by budding filmmakers: A Cloudy Conundrum by Samantha Lee Suyi, Yvonne Ng, Calvin Chua, Woo Ying Tong and Poh Siang Kee, Libertas by Kan Lume and Megan Wonowidjoyo, and Red by Nur Aisyah binte Suhaimi. Free tickets to the 8th Singapore Short Cuts can be collected at the National Museum of Singapore (Stamford Visitor Services Counter) a week before each weekend‘s screening. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and limited to four tickets per person. Any remaining tickets will be given out at the door on the screening day. For more information, please visit to www.nationalmuseum.sg.
