Singapore-born London based designer Eugene Lin graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design with a BA (hons) in Fashion Design Womenswear and a distinction from the Post-Graduate Pattern Cutting course. While still at college, he honed his pattern cutting skills at Tristan Webber, Preen and Vivienne Westwood, and upon graduation worked for other successful UK-based designers such as Roksanda Ilincic and Ashley Isham.
Lin established his eponymous label in 2009, launching his debut womenswear collection SS10 at London Fashion Week. His fourth collection was exhibited at the Paris Fashion Week, and draws inspiration from the tragic Greek myth of Medusa.
Eugene continues: “The silhouette is slim, sophisticated and sensuous, in a rich palette of earth tones. Warm chocolate browns, intense blacks and crisp stone are balanced by a sumptuous emerald green accent, playing on a harmony of subtle fabrics – fine herringbone suiting, exotic embossed leather and my trademark silk jersey, finished with engraved horn and shell buttons. The neckline is given special emphasis, with fabric pleated, folded and draped to echo Medusa’s execution. This season I also introduced engineered digital prints. Opulent wool coats and jackets in stone print mimic Medusa’s petrified victims, contrasting against the femininely seductive draped jersey pieces. Python-print leather harnesses create a fascinating visceral tension with silk jersey, furthering the optical illusion of hard surfaces of soft luxurious textures.”
