Exhibition: Colours in Motion

Opening today at KARTESTUDIO is Colours in Motion, a new body of work by print artist Kelvin Tan.

In his first solo exhibition, Kelvin relates colours to musical notes which are made up by harmonies and discords, and is concerned with how tension or harmony could be attained when a single colour ‘sits’ next to another colour, or groupings of colours in his works.

The prints of Kelvin bring about an astute sense of optical tension with neutral shades contrasting against vivid hues, resulting in a ‘push and pull’ effect between the printed layers. This suggests a way for the artist to bring his viewer into the colour-filled world that he depicts.

About the Artist:

Kelvin graduated from The Open University with Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Printmaking in 2006. While Kelvin is primarily a printmaker, he is known also for his mural-sized works. In 2010, he collaborated with three master artists from the States and four local based artists to recreate two of Sol LeWitt’s Wall Drawings at Marina Bay Sands.

The show runs till 17 February at KARTESTUDIO, 181 Orchard Road #B2-23/29, Orchard Central.
