Exhibition: Strong Play Ethic by Mark Teo

One of Singapore’s up-and-coming young photographers Mark Teo will be holding his first personal exhibition of his work centred around the theme of action and street culture.

A total of 30 pieces of Mark’s favourite personal works, featuring some of the most prominent local and international athletes and artistes in the action sports and street culture scenes, will be on display and up for sale.

This collection of images featuring street culture and alternative sports came about by chance really. It started off when I was asked to help out with a photo shoot for Radikal Forze, which I did pro-bono, said the 27-year-old.

Underneath the steely capitalist/industrialist ethos of the city, “I work therefore I am”, a counter culture Play Ethic is alive and winding its way through the cracks. This is play in its deepest, most productive sense – “the experience of being an active, creative and fully autonomous person”.

Prominent athletes and artistes featured in the exhibition include:

(Singapore)
DJ Koflow – Premier hip-hop deejay
Radikal Forze Crew – Pioneering B-Boy crew
Sasha Christian – Singapore’s top woman wakeboarder
Artkore – Graffiti crew
Acid Crue – Tattoo artists

(International)
Sean Garnier – French former freestyle soccer world champion
The Athertons – World-renowned family of mountain bikers
Kimi Raikkonen – Finnish rally car driver, former Formula 1 world champion
