TACTILE

Tactile brings together 13 works by young artists from five junior colleges, in a showcase that explores the fascinating notion of the tactile. The artworks in Tactile are about engaging the senses, through seeing, exploring and making. It is about getting excited over the play of light and reflection, the subtle textures of paper, fabric, rust, soot and other potential materials. The works centre around the process of learning and understanding through art-making, the act that brings forth forms to ideas and concepts so that they can be communicated across time and space. Outreach programmes: Artist Talk and Tour, 28 November  (1-2 pm) and 9 January 2010 (3-4 pm). Discussion Forum, ‘Partnership and Weaving: Facilitating the art-making process’ by experienced art teachers, 28 November (2.30-4.30 pm). Through 10 Jan 2010 at SAM at 8Q, 8 Queen Street. 1. V. Interesting theory and artwork. I have enjoyed reading and looking at the artwork in the publication.
I think this is a very topical international ‘movement’ of the last number of year — the privileging of ‘touch’ over ‘visuality’.
