Spotted! Matthew Leong

Noise talent, Matthew Leong likes film but shoots digital. “It’s kind of a paradox,” he agrees, “but I like to shoot digitally and post-process them to have the old-school film look; complete with a grainy and moody appearance and cross-processing as necessary. Street photography is my first love, and I like the spontaneity and unpredictability of this genre. You never know what you get when you walk along the streets, and at times it’s akin to fishing where you need to have patience, waiting for “the fish to bite” and the right scene appearing before your eyes.”

Matthew shot his ‘Sliding Doors’ in July 2008 when he was walking along Jalan Besar. “The old design of the door, the stickers, the colour, the tone and the texture of the door were very intriguing, so there and then I took the shot – handheld.”
