Malinky Robot Comics

Malaysia-born, Singapore based illustrator and comics author Sonny Liew is the creative force behind the Malinky Robot comics. Sonny is currently working on his third Malinky edition, tentatively titled The Balloon Bomb Factory. At the same time he is prepping a Malinky Robot short for the next volume of the Flight anthology.

Sonny created his first Malinky comic in 2003 when he was still a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, as a project for David Mazzuchelli’s class. “Malinky Robot: Stinky Fish Blues was my first solo project. It basically follows the adventures of street urchins Atari and Oliver as they pan handle, go fishing and dream of computer games in the semi-fictional city of San’ya, a near-future city based on the real city of the same name,” Sonny explains. “I was fortunate enough to receive a Xeric grant to self publish. Dealing with printers and distribution was an interesting experience, but I’m glad to let proper publishers deal with those things now.” MORE »

Culturepush Job Board

One of our guests at Next Stop: Wonderland emailed the next day to ask whether I could help him advertise for a design position at his organization. To which I said, of course I can! But obviously, I got a little too enthusiastic and built a whole new site just for it.

So voila, presenting the Culturepush Job Board, our bulletin board for creative jobs, gigs (i.e. freelance one-off projects) and calls for entry to local and international design and art competitions.

Within a few days, the board has gotten a number of exciting openings for designers and artists:

As we’ve discovered over the course of running Culturepush, Singapore is exploding with creative talent, and we hope the Job Board will give both young and experienced professionals opportunities to connect with employers and clients who believe in that.

So check back often, or even better, subscribe to the Job Board’s RSS feed to get jobs delivered immediately to you.

For employers who have a creative position to fill, listing a job on our Job Board is free. Every ad runs for 30 days and you get exposure on the Job Board, our main site (see the sidebar), the Wank Shed and through RSS feeds. It’s a pretty sweet deal.

If you’re still unsure, here are more reasons to list on the Board and if that sounds good to you, info on how to submit your listing.

Or simply email: jobs [at] culturepush [dot] com.

The Dada Record: Ivanho Harlim

Hi, I’m Ivanho Harlim. I’m an Indonesian-born, Singapore based photographer. Through my fashion work, I explore notions of solitude, youth and self, and try to challenge conventional perceptions of glamour and beauty. A long-time collaborator to Woods & Woods, I’ve had a string of exhibitions alongside it. I wish to explore more architectural and spatial subjects as an extension to fashion. MORE »
