Spotted! The Bastard Movement

THE ART

‘When realism is too much to take and cumbersome routines become tasteless, the human mind dwells upon a collective of analeptic thoughts; assimilating one’s being into a whole other dimension; a hypnotic illusion of which the mind and soul becomes part,’ says Azly Jacaz aka The Bastard Movement and continues, ‘It is with this illusion that the mind seeks recluse, an exhilarating force of reinforcement to one’s well-being; to be what it wants to be as opposed to what it has become.

Lila was created with this in mind. She is a mediocre damsel whose solace is attained by transcending into a state of hypnosis, constructing images of rainbows within the mercy of spring, where flowers blossom and colours abound; an austere quest for psychological betterment, regardless if it’s anything but relevant by society’s norm. Says Azly, ‘I believe that you do not see what you do not look for, thus, without desideratum, we are not inspired and without inspirations, we are without perspective.’ MORE »

Spotted! Bambu Table Lamp

THE DESIGN

Green is the colour of nature. It is vibrant and alive and it represents growth. Bambu is a table lamp whereby the light intensity is increased by extending, or “growing” the lamp. It caters to the different scenarios when different light intensity is required. In the default position, it acts as a night light with its soft glow, but when stronger lighting is needed, you can simply twist the inner core to adjust the intensity. Says designer Zhen Qi, ‘This introduces a much more interactive way of controlling the light; there is a stronger connection between user and product. It also results in an unfixed form that is different with each change in position. The beauty of nature lies in the asymmetry and ever-changing spirit, the balance of complexity and simplicity, and these are what influenced the design of Bambu.’ MORE »

Spotted! Animasical Fashion

THE DESIGN

Photography: Marie Lee - Model: Jasmine - Make-up: Francine Zhang

‘Animasical is my very first complete collection,’ Kellie Koh explains, ‘I was inspired by The story of Noah’s Ark, and my little brother Aston’s drawings. Four animals are depicted: the Zebra, Giraffe, Tiger and Elephant. It all began when I discovered Aston’s love for drawing. One day, I happened to chance upon some drawings of animals seen through his scatterbrained imagination. I decided to use his fat butt zebra named Zeeton , his short necked Giraffe named Raffey, his cutesy pinkish tiger named Igton and his thinnish elephant named Eleton as the inspiration for my textiles, colour palate and the construction of my designs.’ MORE »
