The Dada Record: Unpopular Radio

Unpopular Radio is a 24-hour online radio station which plays music most would describe as Indie. It is a small pocketed media platform for a range of possible community agendas. The people who run the radio are mostly based in Singapore and sometimes Manila. There are usually live radio shows at night, and for the rest of the time, a loop of 69 songs are on rotation. Between a third to half of the play-list consists of bands from the southeast Asian region. Some of these live shows have been recorded and are available for download. The radio has existed for two years and runs on a different economic logic from the free market system.

From the Cold (or Leeds for that matter) by Muon
A track from Muon’s forthcoming The New Mutants album. The first half of the song showcases the tension between a cerebral spy and gay techno culture; the second half is Nick Chan being self-absorbed. All good.

Logistical Nightmare by Taken By Cars
This band shows how the music scene in Manila is expanding and exploring songwriting in English, as well as a sound unlike a lot of local bands. Dancing is in!

Apartment Story by The National
From an album which is a humanist, accurate depiction of relationships in modernity. Paris chooses this because it is the ontology of a relationship she treasures. Tired and wired, we ruin too easy.

The Slowest Song by The Stoned Revivals
Fresh from the oven, this pre-mixed demo is far from the finished article. But this piece has enough to keep everyone in hot anticipation of the new album … whenever it may come.
